Do not try and adjust the speakers, that is impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.
....There is no speaker.
A Silent Party. I'm going to let you in on a little secret: It isn't silent. Further, it's much more than just a party. It's an experience. A pity really, that the name "Silent Party" - perhaps misleading - doesn't capture the essence of the night like say, "Escape Room" does for its purpose. You won't know until you know.
Simply put, it's party where the music is transmitted through multi-channel headphones rather than the traditional club speakers.
I could also talk about the two-channel headsets that allow you to switch between the pair of DJs playing simultaneously. The headphones will glow a different colour depending on which DJ you are listening to. This visual creates an intense battle between Team Red and Team Green for dance floor supremacy. Since nothing drives performance like competition, you know the DJs are gonna bring it. The power to choose is in your hands.
Not unlike the escape room knowing about the concept is nothing compared to experiencing it for yourself. Seeing is believing.
I'd like to walk you into the room and introduce you to this alternative in night life entertainment that is currently trending around the world...but I can only show you the door.
...Psych! Come on in player.
You enter a stylish Toronto lounge. It’s quiet and feels like you’re early. You soon realize that's not the case as you look around and notice the party happening around you. People are ordering drinks, mingling, laughing, dressed to impress. You’re anxious to see more and your eyes follow the good looking crowd to the dance area.
This place is alive.
Under the gleam of colourful lights you see a confident DJ and a crowd under his spell. Hands are in the air as bodies move with the jubilant expression that you recognize instantly is a response to music. All at once, it hits you.
There is no music!
What the fuck is going on? No sound, but you're watching people dance. It’s as if you are seeing a party from the outside with the damned Ghost of Christmas Past. Your body stumbles out of rhythm searching for that familiar pound of the dance floor bass that isn’t there. You're now uncertain of the amount of charge needed behind the volume of your voice.
Suddenly you're handed a set of headphones and you put them on.
Your friends are there and they gleefully await you to find your bearings. You take comfort in knowing they felt just as strange about it as you, and you soak in all the awesomeness of discovery.
You collect yourelf, you find your sound, you get your groove on. You are in rhythm. You sing and dance to the music you love and the night is no longer silent.
The next Silent Party is Friday June 2nd at Populus, downtown Toronto. Email for tickets and info.
Many people have told me I am full of great stories. Well, maybe not great stories, and by "many people", I really only mean my mom. Still, she tells me im full of it all the time.
